Reading the Holy Quran is one of the most important types of obedience and righteous deeds through which the believer draws closer to his Creator, the Almighty. He feels peace and tranquility with it, and one of the Surahs that achieves this is Surah Al-Kahf.

So what is the virtue and reward of reading Surah Al-Kahf?

The angels descend in the form of a cloud to hear its recitation, especially from the one who recites well and has a beautiful voice, as mentioned in the story of Usaid. The tranquility descends upon its reader and listener, as mentioned in the hadith of the lesson,

“That tranquility descended for the Qur’an.”

It is a light for its reciter, according to the hadith of Abu Saeed Al-Khudri, may God be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said:

“Whoever recites Surat Al-Kahf as it was revealed, it will be a light for him on the Day of Resurrection.” Narrated by Al-Hakim in Al-Mustadrak, Book of the Virtues of the Qur’an, Chapter on Mentioning the Virtues of Various Surahs and Verses.

Protection from the Antichrist, as mentioned in several narrations that reciting its opening or closing verses protects the reciter from the Antichrist. “On the authority of Abu al-Darda’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said:

‘Whoever memorizes ten verses from the beginning of Surat al-Kahf - and in one narration from the end of Surat al-Kahf - will be protected from the Antichrist.’” Narrated by al-Hakim in al-Mustadrak. The Book of Interpretation, Chapter on the Interpretation of Surat Al-Kahf.

There are several hadiths about the virtue of Surat Al-Kahf and the virtue of reciting it on Friday, some of them are in the two Sahihs and some are in other books.

Al-Bukhari said in his Sahih: Chapter on the virtue of Surat Al-Kahf, then he mentioned with his chain of transmission on the authority of Al-Bara’ bin ‘Azib, who said: A man was reciting Surat Al-Kahf and next to him was a horse tied with two ropes, and a cloud covered it and it kept getting closer and closer, and his horse started to shudder. When morning came, he came to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and mentioned that to him, and he said: That is the tranquility that descended with the Qur’an. Agreed upon.

In Sahih Muslim, it is narrated on the authority of the Prophet: Whoever memorizes ten verses from the beginning of Surat Al-Kahf will be protected from the Antichrist.

Al-Hakim narrated in Al-Mustadrak, on the authority of the Prophet, that whoever recites Surat Al-Kahf on Friday, a light will shine for him from one Friday to the next. And it was authenticated by Al-Albani
